President's "E" Award
By: Erika Tarr ![]() Known as one of the oldest and most widely trusted companies dealing in global trade of food products, Otis McAllister, Inc. is truly a shinning star. Founded in 1892 by James Otis, Jr., M. Hall McAllister and Everett N. Bee, their mission was simple: to provide their global customers the widest breadth of sources for high quality and reasonably priced foods, beverages and food ingredients and to conduct business with all suppliers and clients in an ethical manner. This practice has continued for one hundred and sixteen year history as a key company in the worldwide food industry. On November 5, 2009, Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke presented the President's "E" Award to Everett Golden, COO and Royce Nicolaisen, CEO in Washington D.C. Secretary Locke commented "Otis McAllister's achievements undoubtedly have contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the US economy and create jobs." The Presidential "E" Award was created by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, to recognize persons, firms, or organizations that contribute significantly to increasing United States exports. The International Trade Administration, which seeks to improve the global business environment and help U.S. firms to compete and win both at home and abroad, manages the award program that has recognized more than 2,500 firms since its inception. Acknowledging that their export sales had increased over 22% between 2005 and 2008, COO Everett Golden said, "Our mission has always been to provide our global customers with the widest breadth of high quality brands and reasonably priced food, beverage and ingredients. It is deeply gratifying that our approach is successful for our business, our customers, and our country." In addition, they were also recognized for their international marketing strategy based on the principles of building strong relationships with customers, providing high-quality products and maintaining affordable and competitive pricing. Otis McAllister is also known for the humanitarian work they do across the globe. In 2009 this has included sponsoring orphanages in India, supporting "Saving Girls" programs, sustainability programs, and leading corporate social responsibility programs overseas and in the US. "Our humanitarian work is integral to both our philosophy and our success," said CEO Royce Nicolaisen. There is great emotional satisfaction in supporting the communities in which we do business, and we know from experience that when we contribute to their success, they contribute to ours." Otis McAllister operates on six continents and more than 100 countries from their San Francisco headquarters and manages dozens of U.S. brands for export sales. In addition they own their own brands, including Angelita, La Sirena canned fish, Village Harvest Rice, Super Lucky Elephant and Himalayan Pride specialty imported rices. The Specialty Crop Trade Council would like to congratulate Otis McAllister, Inc. for this great achievement.
