Fumigation Seminar: A Class Above the Rest
By Kasey Harper Ferreria On November 4th, local industry members attended the 2009 Pesticide & Fumigation Safety Training Seminar at the Ramada Inn, in Fresno. The objective was simple: To offer continuing education for ACFSQ/DFA members SCTC's Erika Tarr and team compiled a list of diverse speakers who spoke on current food quality and safety topics. Presentations included Designing a Pest Control Program Based on Integrated Pest Management Standards; Insecticidal Efficacy of Sulfuryl Fluoride on Pests of California Dried Fruit and Nuts; Personal Protection Equipment and Respiratory Protection; and Pheromone Technology. ![]() Don Barton from GoldRiver Orchards praised the relevancy of the seminar, saying "This was my first ACFSQ Fumigation Seminar, but it will not be my last. In fact, this was the best and most relevant seminar of any of the CE classes I've taken in the past five years. Every presentation had direct application to the walnut industry and GoldRiver Orchards. This training seminar adds real value to our DFA membership." ![]() Terry Freeto of Sun-Maid Growers appreciated the fact that the speakers tailored their presentation to reflect food industry concerns, saying "Most presenters sell products to our industry and bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their presentations. The classes are tailored to food industry needs and interests. Most other seminars are targeted for the applicators who treat homes and general business, not the food industry." A special thanks to all of our presenters: Mr. Sean Glover from Industrial Fumigant Company; Mr. Louie Guerra from Fresno County Deputy Ag. Commissioner Office; Mr. Larry King from Liphatech; Dr. Spencer Walse from USDA/ARS; Ms. Jeamette Muhareb from ACFSQ; Ms. Judy Johnson from USDA/ARS; Mr. Ed Hosoda from Cardinal Pro Products; Mr. Robert Poehling from Cardinal Pro Products, and Mr. Leonard Mongiello from Bird Barrier America. |
