Member Spotlight: Riverwest Processing, Inc.
Nestled between the Sierra Nevada and Pacific Coast Ranges in California's fertile Sacramento River Valley, lies more than a half-million acres of the world's finest, and most productive almond orchards. Riverwest Processing, Inc., located in Glenn, California, was founded
in 2004 by the Koehnen and Paiva families. Their mission was simple: to provide
a first-class processing destination for their growers, and a complete supply
solution for customers seeking high-quality, natural California-grown
almonds. Their facility is situated on 40-acres, and has quickly become a large
independent nut processor, shipping to customers worldwide.
Riverwest is dedicated to providing value for their local growers, and delivering the finest quality product to their customers. Riverwest's commitment to quality is built on strong relationships—from their local growers to their many customers throughout the world. “Our company has grown because of the relationships we have created with our growers and customers; we believe in our product, and that makes a world of
difference. We have a unique corporate culture. We value our employees as team
members, empowering them to make decisions that are in line with the philosophy
of our ownership and in the best interests of the goals and values of the
organization” said Barbara Smith, General Manager of Riverwest Processing.
Riverwest’s state-of-the-art equipment delivers integrated and highly automated processing from receiving, cleaning, grading, sizing, weighing, packaging to shipping. The staff is experienced and pays close attention to detail to help guarantee efficiency, while ensuring the highest standards of quality control in the finished product. In 2008 Riverwest was awarded Plant of the Year by ACFSQ Director Merle Jacobs for achieving exemplary results in food safety and sanitation practices. The bumper crop of 1.6 billion pounds along with the economic crisis has resulted in challenging times for the almond
industry. Riverwest believes the effectiveness of a balanced marketing strategy
will provide competitive pool pricing to the growers and being a reliable
partner to their customers reduces some of the uncertainty that is inherent in
this industry. Riverwest markets their almonds responsibly and with the
greatest possible geographic diversity. The aim is to use this time of price
weakness to promote almonds aggressively in developing markets that have strong
long term growth potential such as the Middle East and Asia like India and
China.

DFA Terms and Conditions Clarification In mid February, members received a letter regarding the misuse of the phrase “DFA Terms and Conditions.” We would like to remind you that in actuality, the terms and conditions referenced are actually a contract developed by the California Dried Fruit Export Association (CDFEA), which is now referred to as the Specialty Crop Trade Council (SCTC.)
